Daisy

June 1987 ~ February 2002

Daisy was a very special girl.  She had no pedigree all we know was that she was a lab/shepherd mix and she never earned any titles.  As far as I am concern she was the best friend that a girl could have ever had.  She was the most kind, gentle, and loving a creature that few ever have the pleasure of meeting let alone share a life with.  I'm going to do the best to describe what a wonderful companion she was.  Almost a year after her death, it is still difficult for me to right this.

Back around 1989 after my first dog died, I was one very miserable girl with out my little poodle Boo.  My whole concentration that summer was to earn the money or whatever it would take to get a new dog just like in the book Where the Red Fern Grows (now I was in 5th grade).  Low and behold with a lot of pleading and sneaking around behind Mom's back who just happened to be terrified of dogs (that has obviously been changed) we got ourselves a dog from a missionary family from our Church leaving for Pakistan and were unable to take her with them.   Little did we know she would change everything.

Daisy was my constant companion growing up.  We went everywhere and did everything together.  I would ride my bike and she would run along side.  If I would ever be so mean and leave her at home when I visited my friend two blocks away, she would almost always be waiting on Katie's front porch for me after managing to get loose some how.  Daisy taught me so much and tolerated so many mistakes that I made on my part.  She was a very patient and understanding dog no matter what I did.  Although Daisy never had any formal training, she could easily perform obedience exercises through novice and loved agility.  When I was working at an obedience training center, Daisy loved to go to the classes and kept  up with all the  youngsters at ten years young.

Daisy loved the little ones.  She was so gentle and patient with children and babies and absolutely adored their company.  She also had a knack for caring for abandoned kittens that wandered our way.  Daisy was a great puppy raiser.  Every one of my puppies was raised by her the last  being THX and  his litter mates.  And although by then she was at a frailer state, she loved every minute with them.  On the other hand, Daisy was a very dominant and stubborn girl.  However she was fair and could always convince a bossy dog to pipe down with out much effort.

It's hard now to describe her smile, her sense of humor, and just how good she was...she was just such a good dog.   This page is dedicated to the best friend that a girl could ever have...I will never forget you my dear, dear Daisy and you will always remain in my heart.
